There are a number of ways to consume cannabis. But one of the most popular methods is the tried and true classic: Rolling a joint.
Yet as popular joints happen to be (because who doesn’t love a fat joint pack full of skunk weed?), the sad truth is… Lots of folks don’t know how to roll a proper joint.
Or even worse, they think they know how to roll a joint but totally botch the job. And, as everyone knows, there’s NOTHING worse than smoking a poorly rolled joint.
In an effort to help you avoid this unfortunate outcome, Cannawayz.com put together a quick and easy How To Roll a Joint tutorial. Let’s take a look…
The Necessary Equipment
Here’s what you’ll need to get started…
Step One: Grind Your Cannabis
This is the first of a couple of pro tips in this tutorial. Technically, you don’t need a grinder. You can break up and crush cannabis flower buds with your fingers.
But a grinder makes it easier and gives you a nice pile of leafy shake that’s the perfect consistency for rolling a fantastic joint.
This said, don’t grind your cannabis TOO much. If your cannabis grain is too fine, it won’t burn well and will be tough to inhale.
Anyway, drop your cannabis bud into your grinder, give it a few twists, and dump it out.
Step Two: Prepare Your Rolling Paper
Rolling papers are rectangular in shape and come with two distinct edges. One is plain paper, while the other has a small glue strip (this helps you seal the joint once it’s rolled).
Here’s another pro-tip: Tear off a bit of the plain side, so it forms a rounded edge.
Rolling papers are usually too big, so this cuts down the size and ensures you don’t inhale any more gross rolling paper than necessary.
And when the time comes, the smaller size also makes it easier to roll the joint.
Step Three: Sprinkle the Cannabis Into the Rolling Paper
Hold the rolling paper with the fingers of your left hand so the glue side faces away from you. Then cup the paper, so it forms a trough and sprinkle in your ground cannabis.
Be sure it’s even distributed along the trough.
Step Four: Pack the Cannabis in The Rolling Paper
Roll the cannabis back and forth several times in the rolling paper, so it forms a tightly packed cylinder.
Then position the cylinder so it’s at the bottom of the rolling paper. Make sure the rounded edge of the plain side just barely covering the cylinder.
Step Five: Roll + Seal the Joint
Roll the cylinder in the paper upward so the plain, rounded side tucks in. Take care to apply pressure evenly so the joint remains tight and uniformly packed.
Once you reach the top, lick the glue strip and seal the joint.
Step Six: Create + Insert Your Filter
This is another pro tip. Again, you don’t technically need a filter. But a filter keeps the inhale side of your paper joint from disintegrating. And it enables you to smoke the joint right down to the end without burning your fingers on the tiny roach.
To make the filter, roll the small piece of cardboard in the same fashion as your joint, but slightly smaller.
Insert the filter into your joint, and the spiral will loosen, perfectly conforming to the size of your joint.
Bonus Tip One
Lick the filtered end of your joint, saturating it with your saliva. This slows the joint’s burn rate and makes it last longer.
Bonus Tip Two
Don’t inhale the joint when your first light it. Instead, light the burn end of your joint, holding it in the flame until a cherry forms (the small glowing ember at the joint’s end).
And now you’re ready to smoke – Enjoy!
