Cannabis comes in seemingly endless varieties. From Indicas in Sativas to hybrids in every crossbreed you can imagine – There are more cannabis strains than you can shake smoldering spliff at!
And your strain of choice generally depends on your desired effects… Are you looking to relax and chill? Or bust out for a night of mad clubbing?
But there's also another differentiator… The quality factor.
We've all seen Lucious green buds coated with fuzzy, almost glowing crystals. Bud that can give you wicked contact high just from inhaling its alluring aroma.
We've also seen hard, brown dirt weed imported from somewhere South of the Rio Grande. The kind of weed that gives you a headache just looking at it for too long.
Meanwhile, between those two opposite poles are where you'll find most weed options.
So, while it's easy to tell green + glowing = good and hard + brown = bad, how do you differentiate among all the rest?
We get this question all the time here at Cannawayz.com. In turn, our crack team is weighing to help you tell the difference between good and bad cannabis…
How Do We Define For Good + Bad Cannabis?
When we talk about "Good Vs. Bad" cannabis, what does that REALLY mean?
In short… Properly cultivated, dried, and cured female cannabis flower that blooms into well-formed "buds" are what qualify as "Dank Nugs." And that's what you're looking for when shopping for quality weed.
The next obvious question is how do you spot and qualify this type of cannabis?
There are five main factors to keep in mind when buying buds… Look, smell, structure, feel, and content.
How Does the Cannabis Look?
Every shopped for produce at the grocery store? You don't even bother with the brown, wilted, or otherwise tired-looking fruits and veggies, right?
The same goes for cannabis. You want fresh, full-looking buds with bright, vibrant colors. Ideal shades range from lush green to rich purple to deep blue (depending on the strain). And these buds should be topped with orange and red stigmas, the thin hair-like strands flowing off the bud.
You also what to see a lot of trichomes, which are the tiny crystal-like forms coating the buds. A key consideration as the more trichomes you see on the flower, the stronger its potency.
How Does The Cannabis Smell?
The best cannabis always has a strong aroma. And the more pungent its odor, the fresher and higher the grade it's apt to be.
The fragrances may vary, including skunk, diesel, pine, citrus, berry, and so on… But the key is smell's intensity. High intensity = high quality!
How Is The Cannabis Structured?
Variations in strain and cultivation practices can determine cannabis's plant structure. Sativas typically have a looser, more open composition. While Indicas are usually tighter and more compact.
Overly loose and open Sativa plants likely didn't receive enough light during the cultivation process and are underdeveloped. Exceptionally tight and hard Indica plants were probably raised with growth regulators, which tend to yield unpleasant-tasting cannabis.
How Does The Cannabis Feel?
Ideally, you're looking for sticky buds with a spongy feel. Stems should snap and break easily rather than bend or tear. And while you don't want buds that are too dry, overly moist buds are no good either. If the cannabis is too dry, it's likely old. And if it's damp, it's probably underdeveloped. Plus, moist buds are more apt to grow mold and rot.
How is The Cannabis Content Packaged?
Cannabis is priced by weight. Thus, you want a minimum of stems and seeds and a maximum of fat, full buds in your purchase. Plus, stems and seeds don't burn as well as pure bud. And they taste bad, too.
Of course, you can't wholly avoid stems. But the best quality cannabis minimizes stem content and has few, if any, seeds.
