CBD, or cannabidiol, is the second most prevalent of the active ingredients of cannabis (marijuana). However, did you know that cannabidiol (CBD) has shown a reduction in anxiety in patients with generalized Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)? A study took 24, never before treated patients, and placed 12 in a placebo group and the other 12 in the group that received the CBD pill.
According to this article in the journal Neuropsychopharmacology, those who received the CBD pill showed “significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in speech performance, and significantly decreased alert in their anticipatory speech.” The group that was given the placebo pill, on the other hand, presented higher anxiety and discomfort. This is great news for all #CBD lovers! Without the psychoactive elements of THC, CBD can potentially be an effective treatment for anxiety for patients who do not wish to consume THC and get “high”.
Of course, you should probably ask your doctor before starting a new medication. Find out today if CBD is right for you.
