Memorial Day Weekend Cannabis Sales Expected to SOAR

Memorial Day Weekend Cannabis Sales Expected to SOAR

May 28, 2021

Finally, some light is shining through from the end tunnel on our pandemic-addled world. Thanks to coordinated efforts by government officials and pharmaceutical companies, medical professionals have administered 286 million vaccine doses. Many states have at least partially reopened. And most are planning to fully reopen within the next month.

In light of mass reopening and restrictions falling by the wayside, social gatherings (of all sizes) are starting to surge. Folks have been penned up for far too long (over 18 months at this point), and the pent-up desire to cut loose and party is overwhelming.

Memorial Day Weekend Expect To See HEAVY Cannabis Sales

Meanwhile, with the 3-day Memorial Day weekend holiday looming on the horizon, there’s bound to be a gold rush group hangs, backyard barbeques, and house parties.

So, what’s the perfect complement to a hot, happenin’, and off-the-hook holiday weekend party? Here at Cannawayz.com, we assume there will be a whole lotta cannabis on the menu.

And according to business intelligence research firm, Akerna, we’re right on the money! Akerna, who correctly predicted this year’s 4/20 gross sales (which clocked in at over $370 million), says this year’s Memorial Day weekend cannabis sales will crest $238 million.

Memorial Day Cannabis Consumption Trends

Akerna’s market research ranks Memorial Day weekend as one of the “top 10 biggest cannabis holiday sales events.” They expect this Saturday to see the most activity. But Sunday and Monday are not likely to lag too far behind.

Also, Akerna's trending data predicts cannabis flower will the hot commodity, capturing 48% of sales total cannabis sales. With vape cartridges, edibles, and concentrates divvying up the other half of expected cannabis sales.

Surging Sales Means Limited Inventory

Smart dispensary operators are savvy enough to plan for holiday weekend sales rushes. But not all dispensary managers exercise adequate forethought. And even among the operators who do plan ahead, understocking is highly probable.

As such, if cannabis is part of your Memorial Day weekend plans, it’s in your best stock up sooner than later. Or you may find yourself facing slim pickings at your local dispensary.
